Ham Yen district is located in the north of the province, with a total natural area of 900.55 km² and a population of 115,026 people. Ham Yen district has 12 ethnic groups:Dao (25.7%) and Tay (24.6%). The rest are Mong, Cao Lan and small ethnic groups.

Yen Lam commune is a remote and extremely difficult commune of Ham Yen district. The commune covers an area of 12,904.74 ha. The population amounts 4,966 people, of which 74,8% are ethnic minorities: Dao (51.5%), Mong (37.3%) and Tay (9%). The rest are: La Chi, Nung, Muong, Cao Lan, Hoa and Giay. The whole commune currently has 1150 households, including 325 poor households and 342 near-poor households. People live mainly on agricultural and forestry production as well as animal husbandry.

This project should support two communes (Goc Chanh and Quang Tan). Because many villages are far away from the commune center and because children should receive an appropriate education, many kindergartens have been already installed. The furthest kindergarten is located at Goc Chanh village, 18 kilometers away from the central school. Goc Chanh village has 16 households of Mong ethnic group, including 92 people. The village has 14/16 poor households and 2/16 near-poor households. The muddy road to the village can only be reached by motorcycles and motor vehicles on dry days. It takes about 2 hours to get from the commune center to the village. The village does not have national grid yet.

Goc Chanh school site was established in 1997 as a community school site for preschool and primary school of the commune. It is 126 m2 big and divided into 6 small rooms which are temporarily separated by metallic sheets to form the classrooms and the teacher’s room. There is a makeshift kitchen made of sticks on damp ground. Till now, there are no sanitary facilities. Three teachers teach here. Since this school site exists, 59 pupils have completed primary school and continued to study at secondary school and higher levels.

Statistic for the school year 2019-2020 :

  • 20 children got to the kindergarten (2-5 years old); All 2-5 years old children of Goc Chanh go to the kindergarten).
  • 18 children go to the primary school

The LOAN Foundation (LOAN Stiftung) wants to support Goc Chanh as follows:

  • Re-roofing the classrooms
  • Construction of sanitary facilities (toilets, sinks, shower) with water tank and septic tank
  • Acquisition of a solar generator
  • Construction of a kitchen
  • Lockers for the kindergarten children
  • Concreting the playground
  • Amelioration of the classroom partition
  • 12 Ventilators
  • Including the transportation under very difficult conditions; Time of construction approximatively 3 months after the financing is granted.

Budget needed for Goc Chanh: approx. USD 14.035,00 (or approx. € 13.120,00)

The village of Quang Tan is  5 kilometers far from the commune center. Quan Tan hamlet has 70 households, mainly H’Mong ethnic people, including 32 poor households and 10 near-poor households. The school site was established in 1993 and employs 5 teachers. It has 5 classes with 54 children in total  (1st until 5th grade). In Quang Tan the sanitary facilities are downgraded and in the meanwhile dangerous. This situation affects heavily the lives of the children and the teachers.

The LOAN Foundation (LOAN Stiftung) wants to support Quang Tan as follows:

  • Construction of sanitary facilities with water tank, septic tank and sinks
  • Time of construction: approx. 1 month after the financing is granted

Budget needed for Quang Tan: approx. USD 4.060,00 (or approx. € 3.795,00)

Total budget needed for the district of Ham Yen (Goc Chanh and Quang Tan): approx. USD 18.095,00 (or approx. € 16.915,00)

As a turnover foundation, the LOAN Foundation (LOAN Stiftung) can provide help directly. We would like to carry out this project, but are dependent on every financial donation. We remain optimistic that we will be able to collect the necessary funds.

In cooperation and in continuous contact with our Vietnamese partners, we will as always supervise and guide this project personally and on site. We will report on the progress regularly.

We would be delighted if you were to provide us with moral and financial support in this endeavor. Thank you very much!
