Project No. 33 – Boarding house and sanitary facilities for Xuan Minh (Quang Binh district) in the north of Vietnam
Status October 1st, 2019: Quang Binh is a rural district of Ha Giang province in the northeast region of Viet Nam. It is divided into 01 township and 14 communes. The district has a total land area of 791,78 km2 and a total population of 62.500 people.
Xuân Minh commune is a difficult commune of Quang Binh district. The social and economic development are far behind. The commune has 68,7 km2 with more than 2.374 people. There are 8 ethnic minorities living in the commune and Dao people account for the largest number (90%). There are 217 poor households (1.065 people) and 86 near-poor households (488 people).

The primary and secondary school of Xuân Minh is 38 kilometers far from Quang Binh district center. The school counts 455 students studying in 16 classes: Primary school: 10 classes (283 children), Secondary school: 6 classes (172 children).
Currently, 388 children and 25 teachers overnight at school. The boarding rooms are mostly made of thin steel. The rooms are overcrowded (minimum 38 children per room). The sanitary facilities are downgraded and not enough for all boarding students.
Looking towards the future, Xuân Minh commune is in need of the following:
- 1 x boarding house with 10 rooms
- sanitary facilities with WCs and showers
- 80 bunk beds and 30 steel cabinets with 6 compartments (USD 9.500 oder approx. € 8.800,00)
Overall funds needed: USD 66.763,00 or approx. € 61.800,00
Next to the population of Xuân Minh (2.374 people), 388 children and 25 teachers would be the direct beneficiaries of this project!:)
As a turnover foundation, the LOAN Foundation (LOAN Stiftung) can provide help directly. We would like to carry out this project, but are dependent on every financial donation. We remain optimistic that we will be able to collect the necessary funds.
In cooperation and in continuous contact with our Vietnamese partners, we will as always supervise and guide this project personally and on site. We will report on the progress regularly.

Status December, 2020: On December 3rd, 2020, we get new pictures and videos from Xuan Minh. The weather is fine and allows good progresses. Many walls of the main building are getting plastered. The walls of the future sanitary facilities are growing. There is still a lot of work to be done, but we are confident to realize successfully a wonderful project!:) After all it is a big building…:) On December 17th, 2020, the new material shows us that the project progresses as planned. First floors have been tiled. New walls are getting plastered. The next step will be the fixing of the roof.
Status January, 2021: On January 5th, 2021 we received new pictures and videos from Xuan Minh. The roof is now finished. Further floors have been tiled. The sanitary facilities as well as the plastering works are done. The painting is now in progress. On January 18th, 2021, new pictures and videos show us the next progresses of our project. In the meantime all floors habe been tiled. Some painting works have still to be finished. During the last week-ends, the teachers together with the students have flattened and cleaned the entire site. Stones are now used for some strong walls in the surroundings. All people involved in the project work hard and clean. The first bunk-beds and the steel cabinets have been installed. Everybody is looking forward to the successful realization of this project with much happiness. On January 28th, 2021, the new pictures and videos we received show us that this project is reaching its successful end: Windows and doors are fixed. The surfaces around the new buildings have been cemented in order to keep the surroundings clean. Together with the students, the teachers have cleaned and flattened the site before. A part of the way to school has been widened and is now getting cemented. The official handing over of this new Building is planned on February 1st, 2021. We share our happiness with the teachers and the hundreds of students that will have from that point on better learning and living conditions!:)
Status February, 2021: It would have been so nice… Due to new Covid-19 cases in Vietnam, we had to redesign everything. The handover ceremony that was planned on February 1st, 2021 could not take place. Though all persons involved had organized everything already the best. Some signboards for each bedroom had been fixed . A stage and a big tent had been organized and performances of the children had been assiduously practiced. Lovely decorations had been made. Even new trees have been planted at this occasion. On January 31st, 2021 we had also checked the technics for a good digital broadcast. Just as all was installed, severe measures had to be established. All persons involved are sad about the cancellation of the handover ceremony, but all also do understand that health protection has main priority.
All the more we are happy about the pictures and videos that our Vietnamese team took on the site on January 31st, 2021 (Mrs. Bui Thu Huong and Mr. Tran Quang Phu). We had allowed to the children to “inaugurate” theirs new bedrooms. Again, the LOAN Stiftung makes hundreds of children and their teachers happy, with donations that were used to 100% (without deduction) – Here we say thank you to all our devoted donors!:) For the future we wish to all the children of Xuan Minh and their teachers good luck, much success and always good health!:)
Status May, 2021: End of May, 2021 we receive new videos and pictures of Xuan Minh. The teachers and the children are happy. Our new building relieves their daily lives and school routine. We are happy!:)
Status September, 2021: School in Xuan Minh has started again. We have received new pictures of the daily life of the students. The new boarding house is well used. We are happy!:)
Status Dezember, 2021: We regularly receive new images from Xuan Minh. The school facility has become a dream for the children and the teachers. In the meantime a canopy has been built. The facility has 2 washing machines and a table tennis table. The children love going to school. In the video gallery (or here below) the material speaks for itself. Enjoy viewing! 🙂
Status September, 2022: On September 7th, 2022, I (Isabelle Müller) visited Xuan Minh commune together with my Vietnamese team. The boarding house looks very nice and the children are happy to be able to spend the night here. The school facilities are still well maintained. We have handed over to the children 500 books (our Project No. 38), so that they can improve their education with a wider range of reading material. The children and the teachers prepared a welcome ceremony for my visit. We wish the children, the teachers and the commune of Xuan Minh all the best for the future, good luck and success!:)
